Jenn Hauta is the owner and head trainer  of Fairy Dogmother Training & Pet Care. She is the first Fear Free Certified Professional in Nanaimo and the first Family Paws Parent Education presenter on Vancouver Island. Her passion for animals led her to start professionally pet sitting in 1995. In 2001, Jenn volunteered and worked at Whistler Animals Galore (a fabulous shelter in Whistler BC) for 5 years where she learned to conduct temperament assessments  and started training and behaviour modification for cats and dogs. She has also worked at a boarding kennel.

Jenn feels very fortunate to have been able to meet and work with a variety of dogs and cats (some birds and lizards too!) with a wide range of behavioural issues such as resource guarding, fear, and aggression.

In 2010, Jenn watched a trainer using positive reinforcement methods. Her interest was piqued and this led her to pursue learning as much as she can about humane, reward based, science backed training and dog behaviour. Jenn is dedicated to ongoing education to better help her clients, and has completed courses such as the Trainer Foundation Course and the Puppy Start Right Course through Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior, and a nine day intensive Chicken Camp Course taught by Terry Ryan (learning to train chickens makes for better dog trainers!).

Jenn is a Fear Free Certified Professional, a licensed Family Paws Parent Education presenter, and a Puppy Start Right Instructor, and is required to use the Humane Hierarchy to guide training and behaviour modification decisions.

Jenn is also very proud to be a full professional member of  Vancouver Island Animal Training Association. Membership requires a written test, be sponsored by a current professional member in good standing, and adherence to a strict code of ethics.
